Sprinting like Caleb Ewan

I spent the last part of the day sprinting like Caleb Ewan – except that it was uphill, at 6km/h and about 80 watts.

But the position was the same! I needed it, for the head wind I was facing. Still, Not a bad day today – 345km and 4400m. The increase on yesterday is mainly due to more time not more fitness, but at least I was feeling a bit better. Still got my hydration very out of whack, but I’m working on it.

Some spectacular views today, with some more awful roads but a few good ones too.

Right now for the first time in my life I’m bivvying in an actual bus shelter – there’s a lot of lightning about.

Bulgaria is an amazing place. The people are generally so poor, and yet also so generous. A guy today realised after selecting his lunch that he had no Lev left. He offered Euro, and was told it was fine he could just have the food. I gave him 20 Lev to go back in and pay, but again she rejected payment. That would never happen I Australia, despite everyone having so much more!

Goodnight!

  1. hi rowan, we – dieter/ute – do watch the nr. 60 dots one to two times a day; keep on rolling and the streets become better when you come close to slovenia; and: what possible is possible, what not – not; important: water, water, water like during the tour de france, except there is no car, which brings you the bottles! hugs
